Most people know me as an estate planning attorney. Some know me as The Plain English Attorney. But what you may not know is that I’m also a proud, active member of the Triangle Young Professionals Civitan Club—a service organization made up of people who care deeply about giving back to our community.
All year long, I meet with fellow members, help plan service projects, and roll up my sleeves alongside them to support causes that matter. One of the highlights of our calendar is a fundraiser that’s equal parts fun and meaningful: the Cornament.
Cornament Special Olympics
This year’s Cornament will take place on Saturday, August 16th, from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Trophy Maywood Hall and Garden in Raleigh. It’s our signature fundraising event, where teams compete in a friendly (but fiercely competitive) cornhole tournament—all to raise money for Special Olympics North Carolina.
If you’ve never been to a Special Olympics event, I can tell you it’s one of the most inspiring things you’ll ever witness. These athletes show up with heart, determination, and joy—and your support helps make that possible. The funds we raise go directly to helping athletes with intellectual disabilities train, compete, and thrive.
This year, I’ll be serving as the Master of Ceremonies, making announcements and keeping the energy high throughout the day. My law office is also proud to be a sponsor, and we’ll have a table set up at the event. But my involvement runs much deeper than that—this isn’t just something I’m parachuting into for a day. The Cornament is a project my club and I have been working on for months, and I’m honored to be part of the team that brings it to life.
Whether you play in the tournament, browse the silent auction, or just show up to cheer and connect, you’re part of something meaningful. You’re helping make sure that every athlete gets the chance to shine.
So please join us. Bring a friend. Stop by and say hello. And if you hear someone on the mic making bad puns between rounds… yeah, that’s probably me.
