Being The Estate Geek, I help people plan ahead for the next generation when they are no longer here. But that doesn’t mean that helping people here and now is not a priority. Whether it is volunteering through Kiwanis or some other organization, there is a lot to be done by everyone to make the world a better place.

I would like to take this segment to plug a fundraising event for my Kiwanis Club, the Kiwanis Club of Raleigh. The Raleigh Kiwanis Club supports a lot of charities in Wake County and beyond, including Big Brothers and Big Sisters of the Triangle, The Shepherd’s Table Soup Kitchen, and we even buy presents and a new pair of shoes every Christmas for each foster child in Wake County. And on Saturday, October 23, 2010, they will be holding their first annual Kiwanis Pancake Day at the Highland United Methodist Church located at the intersection of Ridge Road and Lake Boone Trail in Raleigh, North Carolina.

On the menu will be all of the pancakes and sausage you care to eat along with door prizes, guest speakers and other community and volunteer dignitaries. And yours truly will be helping with the cooking. The time is 6 am to Noon, and tickets are $5 per person. I will also be getting a block of tickets to give to some of our existing clients and referral partners, but if you would like more information, please go to www.raleighkiwanis.org. Kiwanis a global organization of volunteers changing the world one child and one community at a time, and the children of the world can use all of the help you can give.
