The worst part-time job you’ll ever have being an Executor of a loved one’s estate when they have not planned to avoid probate. For many years, our firm has worked tirelessly to spread the word about the useof properly drafted and well-funded revocable living trusts as the best way to avoid the tedious probate court process. Unfortunately, not everyone has heard the message or taken it to heart in their own planning.
Over the past several years, many of our clients have experienced firsthand how complicated, time-consuming, and mind-numbing the probate was because their loved ones put them in charge. Weekends and evenings have been lost sifting through bank statements. Kids baseball games and other family time passed them by waiting on the phone with financial firms. Vacation days from work were eaten up copying cancelled checks and filling out court forms.
While our firm will remain committed to helping our clients plan ahead to avoid these issues for their loved ones through revocable trusts, we cannot simply let our clients go through the bureaucracy of probate alone when we can help. To address these needs, we have started a new division and process within our office to specifically focus on Estate Administration, including simply taking over the process as Administrator if it makes sense for the family.
Life is hard enough, and we don’t want our clients to lose any more time with their families dealing with court paperwork if we can help.
